I learned a lot of Java in only 9 days. The instructor was a high school teacher and he's been teaching coding for almost 20 years. He was very patient with everyone and made sure everyone understood the content. We were given breaks and a nice long lunchtime. There were a lot of topics covered but it wasn't overwhelming.

Michelle Wang

Great introduction to Python/coding/data science. This was my first time coding and I learned a lot. If you want to learn a ton and have fun while doing it, this is the place for you!

Maxim Kurdimov

We covered a lot of topics in Java, starting from basic syntactical things to creating our own custom datatypes. I feel very confident in my Java abilities after beginning the program with basically no knowledge of the language.

Onyinyechukwu Okonkwo

The Python Summer Bootcamp was a very informative and fun course with a great instructor who was helpful and kept the class engaging with different coding exercises.

Tara Fak

Noble Desktop provided a well-equipped environment and a very effective teacher to help me learn Java coding. The class was enjoyable, engaging, and most importantly, very informative.

Raphael Nordenberg

Great course, you learn a lot in a short time. The instructor was good at explaining how different things in Python work and answered questions well.

Nieves Vivar

This class promotes my passion for programming!

Matthew Liu

I really enjoyed the goal-oriented nature of the course. Instead of only learning about the theory behind computing, we got a chance to apply what was being taught by writing code and putting everything together to build something practical. Also, we covered a wide range of topics aside from just programming like a little bit of computer hardware, files & file formats, and HTML. After taking this class, I feel like there are so many more possibilities and applications of computer science than I originally thought. Overall, I was really impressed with how well-designed the course was.

Emily Mittleman

This class made me a faster and more efficient coder. The curriculum is well designed and the teachers really care about your success. I would recommend NextGen to anyone looking to gain this integral skill.

Molly Leifer

The course was a great experience. I learned more then I ever have in this program. The teachers were extremely nice and always willing to help out! The course materials were clearly well-prepared and the speed of the course was perfect!

Corey Feldman

Very thorough material and hands-on experience. Everyone cares about you and you can ask as many questions as you like. Better than a regular class.

Kendrick Berman

It is a fast paced program where the teachers do a great job of making sure everybody is keeping up. The projects and assignments were challenging and interesting as well. The only con for me was the age gap between students but it wasn't a big problem.

Jared Tsang

This bootcamp really helped me improve my computer programming skills from a novice to an intermediate.

Soham B.

This class teaches real world uses for computer science languages

Soham Bafana

It's a great class for coding beginners who want to learn the basics of Python.

Roland Shen

This is a great class! It's a great way to prepare for a world of programming in the future.

Nina Gannon

This made me learn Java at a perfect pace. I understood all that was taught and I learned new things about programming.

David Buscema

I started this class with almost no understanding of coding. I am satisfied with what I now know, and this will be a huge help for future classes I will be taking.

Stephen I.

Given how complex and extensive Java is, this course did a great job introducing Java and allowing us to experience and visualize various aspects. Mr. Iwanski was thorough in his explanations and provided relevant examples to teach us the various information. He took time to ensure that we were all on the same page and understanding the concepts. I appreciate his patience and guidance in the course.

Elizabeth N.

This class was a great intro to learning coding languages.

David Khalili

We covered something new every day, which made me feel that I was exploring a lot about Python.

Shane L.

We covered much of the content that I was hoping to cover and all was easily understood. The instructor was very nice and taught the information in a way that was easy to follow and understand.

Cayden H.

Why Attend a Coding Camp This Summer?

Summer is an important time for high school students to explore their interests and increase their marketable skills. Colleges and employers are always looking for students to show initiative in gaining valuable experience in their topics of interest. Unfortunately, students are asked to spend the majority of their time during the school year completing assignments and projects within their school’s core subject areas, leaving little time to learn and practice specialized topics and skills. That’s why the summer is such an incredible opportunity for kids! Students can spend their summer learning in a fun, stress-free environment at NextGen’s coding camps.

Summer Coding Programs for High School Students NYC (24)

NextGen gives students the perfect place to explore their passion for technology in a safe, academic, and highly personalized environment. NextGen teaches many different coding languages, opening the door for students with a wide array of interests to sample a variety of tech roles before finding the perfect fit. Additionally, our curriculum is activity-based and hands-on so that students can learn concepts quickly and become familiar with complex concepts in a short period of time! Here are some more reasons to take our code camps this summer:

Improve Your Brain-Power

Studies show that learning a new language, including computer programming languages, has remarkable cognitive benefits, including increases in processing power, working memory, and attention span. Additionally, programmers’ brains are said to work twice as hard as other writers because writing in code activates both the region of the brain that handles language processing and the region of the brain that handles mathematical reasoning. Finally, according to the National Institute of Health, learning new coding principles helps to form new neural connections and strengthens existing connections related to logic, problem-solving, and reasoning.

Highly Effective Immersive Learning

Although students spend their school year sitting in classrooms for several hours a day, they’ve never learned in a classroom quite like this. Our immersive curriculum has students actively working on coding projects all day, starting on day one. Think of this pedagogical method as similar to moving to another country to learn a second language: the complete immersion enables students to learn on a deep, conceptual level more quickly than would ever be possible in a lecture-style classroom.

Stand Out as a College Applicant

With college acceptance becoming more competitive every year, high school students need to demonstrate their enthusiasm for learning and their commitment to pursuing academic excellence. By completing NextGen’s program, students show colleges that they are aware of the current demands of the job skills market and that they are serious about taking on rigorous learning opportunities to excel in high school, college, and beyond. Beyond looking great to college admissions boards, students in our courses learn skills that enable them to get ahead in high school math and computer science, test out of college courses, and spend more time preparing for whatever they wish to do in the real world.

About NextGen's NYC Summer Coding Camps

Local New York City high school students can attend a summer coding bootcamp in Midtown Manhattan in-person. You’ll learn alongside other high school students who are excited about coding too.

Coding is a general term for all programming languages, but you’ll need to have a general idea of the path you want your career to take before diving into a class. Coding can be divided into three buckets: design, data, and development.

Whether you want to learn how to program in HTML and CSS for design, Java for development, Python for data or development, or all of the above, we have a coding camp for you. You can learn data science, web development, web design, or computer science over the summer in NYC!

Summer coding bootcamps for high school students in NYC

There aren’t many summer coding bootcamps specifically for high schoolers. In fact, this is one of the only coding bootcamps for high school students in New York City! Our summer coding bootcamps in NYC are hosted in our Midtown Manhattan location and provide access to computers for the program.

When you go to a coding summer camp you’ll make friends who code and understand how coding is used in the real world, not just an exam. You’ll finally meet people who think like you. Learn more than what they teach at your school at a summer coding camp with design courses and industry expertise.

No matter what career path you choose to take, whether you go to college or not, there’s a definite possibility that you’ll be using technology in your future. This camp will teach you the fundamentals you need for your future but it’ll also help you fall in love with tech.

Why you should learn to code over the summer

At coding summer camp, you’ll finally meet people who think like you do. You’ll make friends who code and collaborate with them on projects. You’ll learn the essentials of coding at a summer coding camp instead of having to go through monotonous background info that schools usually teach before you get to try hands-on projects.

There’s a strong possibility that you’ll be using technology in your future – no matter what career path you choose to take or whether you go to college. This camp will teach you the fundamentals you need for your future. Along the way, you might also fall in love with tech.

How to ace your AP computer science exam

Are you nervous about those free-response questions on the AP computer science exam? 50% of your exam score is resting on your knowledge of structures, classes, and array concepts. Don’t worry about studying all afternoon and every weekend during the school year, learn it over the summer instead!

Learn everything you need to know to not only pass but snag a 4 or 5 on your AP computer science exam at our Java Programming Summer Camp. Don’t worry, you don’t have to know anything before you start. You can attend this camp before you begin your AP course.

In-person summer coding camps in Midtown Manhattan

Learning in-person gives you the chance to get face-to-face learning time with an industry-experienced instructor. Real-time instruction allows you to ask questions when you have them so that you can learn faster and more comprehensively.

Learning to code is an intimidating task and choosing the right class is important. If you’re new it can be difficult to find the right class or to choose which coding language you’d like to start with. On the bright side, you don’t have to settle on your entire future yet to start learning to code.

High school summer coding bootcamp options

You should have a general idea of which career path you want to take off the main three coding paths (design, data, or development) before you start learning. If you’re not sure where to start, HTML and CSS for web design or Python for data science are the easiest languages for beginners to learn first.

No matter which language you choose to learn first, you’ll benefit from learning how to learn. Most programmers learn multiple languages over the course of their careers. Learning any coding language will make it easier to learn others later. If you change your mind about your career path, you can easily switch between programming languages.

If you’re ready to learn web design this summer, you can sign up for the High School Web Design Summer Bootcamp in New York. You’ll learn HTML, CSS, and Sketch, the building blocks of what you see on a website. Create your own website during camp!

Creative students can even combine web design and graphic design for a well-rounded introduction to design with the Graphic & Web Design Summer Program in NYC. Learn everything you would in the Web Design Bootcamp with extra classes in Adobe Creative Suite to boost your web graphics and your portfolio.

Take your development education one step further with the High School Java Programming Summer Camp in NYC. This class is designed to help you prepare for the AP Computer Science Exam or college-level computer science courses. You’ll learn Java in-depth with hands-on projects and a globally trusted workbook.

If you like math and statistics, data science is definitely the path for you. Dive into data science with the Python Data Science Summer Program for high school students in NYC. You’ll learn Python and the foundations of data science. The best thing about Python is that it’s so versatile you can easily pivot into web development with this language if you decide data science might not be for you.
